Weekly tip: keep easy days truly easy
The long days only work if the days around them let you recover. This week's tip: slow down on purpose.
The most common mistake I see, and make myself, is running easy days a little too hard. They end up neither restful nor useful.
Try this week
On your easy runs, keep a pace where you could chat in full sentences. On climbs, walk early. If you feel you're holding back, you're probably doing it right.
Why it matters
Recovery is where the training settles. Fresh legs on the next long or hard day are worth more than a slightly faster easy run.
How do I know it's easy enough?
The talk test above is the simplest guide. If you train with heart rate, ask a coach or health professional to help set your zones rather than relying on a generic formula. Your UTMB Index comes from race results, not training, so easy days are about arriving at those races fresh.
