PROJECT 171™

By Fredrik Kaada

The person behind PROJECT 171.

PROJECT 171 is my record of becoming a stronger mountain runner: learning in public, enjoying the trail community and building patiently towards UTMB.

The path so far

  1. 2013–2021

    Adventure guide, DNT

Formerly an experienced hiking guide with the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT), leading more than 50 trips.

  2. 2012–2020

    DNT ung boards

Stavanger, Bergen and national youth boards — building outdoor life for young people.

  3. March 2025

    Sorrento → Vesuvius

A self-made 70.6 km route with 2,816 m of climbing in 9 h 57 min, four days after the Rome Marathon.

  4. Now

    Project 171

Building toward UTMB: 171 km and 10,000 m+ — shared openly on Strava and Instagram.

Off the trail, I founded Nordic MarTech and hold a master's in Innovation and Sustainability from NTNU. I'm an active brand advocate for Protect Our Winters.

Why share it?

Because the best parts of trail running are rarely solitary: useful advice, shared effort, hard-earned perspective and the lift that comes from meeting people on the same path.
