PROJECT 171
What is a good UTMB Index?
UTMB has not published a number that counts as a "good" Index. What is published is how the Index is built and what a valid Index unlocks.
- 01
The UTMB Index measures trail runners' performance based on their race results and allows performance comparisons between runners across all races.
- 02
Each race generates a unique Score based on the performance achieved on race day and the level of the other participants; the UTMB Index is built from the best Scores achieved over the last 36 months.
- 03
The UTMB Index is calculated for each of the 4 UTMB World Series race categories (20K, 50K, 100K, 100M); runners are also given a General UTMB Index combining all categories.
- 04
A valid UTMB Index is achieved by completing at least one race of the UTMB World Series, or a UTMB Index race, in the relevant category within the previous 24 months.
- 05
A valid UTMB Index in the right category is mandatory to enter the HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc lottery: UTMB (100M) needs 100K or 100M; CCC (100K) needs 50K, 100K or 100M; OCC (50K) needs 20K, 50K, 100K or 100M.
- 06
Depending on your UTMB Index, you may be eligible for priority registrations, starting wave placement, exclusive access or elite status.
UTMB has not published a specific score that counts as "good" — the Index shows your relative performance level, not a pass/fail threshold.
